Inside Sales Representative – Building Materials

Position Summary:
We are looking for a knowledgeable, customer-focused Inside Sales Representative to join our building materials sales team. In this role, you will be the initial point of contact for walk-in customers seeking high-quality construction and building products. These customers will include contractors, masons, builders, architects, and homeowners, seeking to select the right materials for structural and aesthetic success. From taking orders to providing product recommendations and following up on quotes, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring excellent service and growing our customer base. This team member will provide administrative and operational assistance to the sales team, focusing on tasks that facilitate the sales process and customer relationship management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Engagement & Sales Support
- Respond to inbound calls, emails, and walk-in inquiries from customers seeking building products related to masonry materials and supplies.
- Proactively follow up with customers to understand material needs and provide solutions.
- Provide accurate product information, availability, and pricing based on current inventory and vendor catalogs.
- Understand customer project requirements and recommend appropriate products or solutions based on application, specifications, and budget.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships to ensure repeat business and referrals.
- Quoting & Order Management
- Prepare accurate and timely price quotes, bids, and product proposals for residential, commercial, or industrial building projects.
- Process sales orders using ERP or CRM systems; ensure on-time delivery or pick-up through coordination with dispatch, warehouse, and delivery teams.
- Track orders, update customers on delivery timelines, and resolve any order or delivery issues.
- Product Knowledge & Support
- Stay up to date on product specifications, industry trends, and new offerings from manufacturers and suppliers.
- Work closely with outside sales reps, inventory managers, and vendors to meet customer needs and manage special orders.
- Assist customers in understanding technical aspects of products.
- Collaboration & Sales Growth
- Work closely with outside sales representatives, project estimators, and supplier reps to meet customer needs and close opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of interactions, quotes, and sales activity using CRM software.
- Follow up on open quotes, assist in product substitutions, and provide post-sale support as needed.
- Collaborate with operations and warehouse teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment and delivery.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of inside sales experience, preferably in the building materials, construction, or industrial supply industries.
- Strong understanding of common building materials, construction methods, and industry terminology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a professional and customer-centric approach.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with sales and order management systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, or a related field is a plus.
Preferred Traits:
- Familiarity with blueprints, construction take-offs, or reading material lists.
- Experience supporting contractors, builders, remodelers, or tradespeople.
- A problem-solver with strong organizational skills and a proactive attitude.
