They’re a favorite building material of architects and structural engineers for a number of important properties.

• The primary structural property is compressive strength. In many cases, steel reinforced CMU construction may provide the most economical way to meet certain requirements of building codes or the specialized needs of a client.
• Utilizing concrete blocks in any building design can significantly increase its fire code rating. The fire rating of concrete blocks vary by unit type, and we can provide blocks with two-hour or four-hour fire rating if needed.
• CMU walls are easily insulated with a variety of products. Insulation can be placed on the inside, outside, or in the ungrouted cores of hollow units.
• Concrete blocks are also an effective noise control material. Exterior walls reflect outdoor sounds away while interior walls help to block sound between rooms.
• All Antique Brick and Block’s structural block products meet the requirements of ASTM-C90.

Split Face

Split face CMU are consistently the most popular of the architectural masonry unit finishes because they offer a uniquely textured face and can be manufactured as a paint grade product or in a variety of attractive colors. Because of the manufacturing process of a split face block, no two units are exactly alike, which offers aesthetic depth to building design. Our split face masonry can be used as a load-bearing wall or as a veneer, and it blends well with other architectural block finishes. Split face masonry is thermally efficient, sound absorbent and fire resistant– making it a preferred product in the construction of commercial projects such as theaters, schools and municipal buildings. Manufactured as a normal weight or lightweight unit, it conforms to ASTM C90 standard specification for load-bearing concrete masonry units.
